Hi all!
I'm getting all ready for the December launch of Parties &
Potions! Yes, another teen book. I promise to start writing adult
stuff again soon...
I'm the meantime, a few things to ell you...
First, Milkrun and Fishbowl are being reissued in November, so
if you haven't already read them, check 'em out.
The books might be available in the teen section of the bookstore,
but please be aware that they are definitely 16 and up.
These books were written as chick lit for adults, and are about
twenty-somethings behaving like twenty-somethings. These versions
were not edited for teens in any way.
Second, I'm going to have a blog. In this space. Hopefully by
the end of the month. So check back! In the meantime, you can
read my kind-of-blog on livejournal at http://sarah-mlynowski.livejournal.com
And finally, over the years some of you have asked me about getting
books signed. While I'm not sure about my upcoming event schedule,
I am going to be signing personalized bookplates. I set up a mailbox
for this and everything.
Want one?
Here's what to do:
Send a letter with a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) to:
Sarah Mlynowski, 101 West 23rd Street #401, NY NY 10011 USA
Please tell me who I should sign the bookplate for and if you
need any special message (no longer than a line please!) I am
happy to make up my own. Also, only one per person. Unless you
are buying Parties & Potions for everyone on your Christmas
list. Which would be awesome. (I'm going to cap it at ten at the
moment, but we'll see how it goes.)
Make sure to put the right address and postage on the SASE or
you will not get the bookplate.
You may also want to include your e-mail address in the note
in case of problem..
Also, I'm kind of testing out how this is all going to work,
so check back here for any changes...

December 2006
Hiya,
The tour is now long done, and I had a blast. Thanks to all of
you who came by to say hello --it was great to meet you.
At the moment, my countdown is on...to a new book, you wonder?
No, the countdown to my 30th birthday. Two weeks to go. The bio
on the back of the trade edition of Milkrun is now officially
outdated. ("An irrepressibly optimistic twenty-something,
Sarah Mlynowski is also the owner of numerous first-date outfits.
Sarah lives and works in Toronto..") I guess the bio was
already outdated since I haven't had first date outfits or lived
in Toronto for in a few years. I enjoyed my twenties--I got published,
I got married. I got my Greencard. I discovered avocados. (Yummy,
delicious avocados.) But my 30s...thirty-something...that sounds
mature. You have to be responsible in your 30s. There might be
a house in your 30s. There might be children. There will definitely
be gray hair.
We shall see.
As for books, I have a new teen book (Spells & Sleeping Bags)
coming out in June, but nothing new for adults. (Although I know
many of you have been reading my teen series, and I love that
you do. We're all still 14 at heart, aren't we?) It’s the
last of Bras trilogy, and it takes place at camp. Now I’m
working on a new teen book with awesome teen authors Lauren Myracle
and E. Lockhart, called How to Be Bad. At some point this year,
I’ll start a new adult book, and I'm wondering how you all
feel about short story collections. I really like writing them,
but I'm curious if you like reading them. Personally, I have mixed
feelings about all collections. I love to buy them, but I don't
think I've ever read one straight through. They tend to sit on
my shelf without getting much love. Although I'm thinking I could
include a Milkrun sequel in the collection as a novella...Hmm.
Lots of decisions to make in my 30s...but for now, it’s
vacation.
Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy 2007.

P.S. For those of you who stop by my site often, you should know
that sarahm.com now leads you here as well sarahmlynowski.com.
So you can (finally) stop trying to remember how to spell my last
name. Thanks to Todd and Darren for thinking of it and for figuring
out how to make it happen.

Hi all,
I'm on tour!
Come say hello! And See
Jane Write is finally out! So if you want to be the heroine
of your own story...check it out.

Aug 2006
Hi there,
ME VS ME is finally out! Yes, I know it's been a while since
my last adult chick novel was published. Sorry about that. As
you can see from my teen site, I've been busy trying to write
YA. Anyway, I'm thrilled that ME VS ME is now available, and I
hope you like it.
My summer has been pretty relaxed...we took a two week holiday
to Estonia and Russia, which was fascinating. It doesn't ever
really get dark there this time a year, which was both cool and
freaky. The picture below was taken at 11:30 PM in Tallinn:.
Cool, no?
I'll be hanging around New York for the rest of the month finishing
up a story I'm writing for Scholastic. ...then in September I'll
be starting my 12-city tour. I could not be more excited. If any
of you have been keeping up with my site for an extended period
of time, say since back in 2003, you know that I have never been
on a tour. So I have no idea what to expect. Will it be exhausting?
Exhilarating? Will anyone come? I'm also a little unclear about
how many outfits (particularly pairs of underwear) to bring...three
weeks worth? Or do I find a laundromat? Send out to hotel laundry?
Wash in sink? Excuse for shopping?
For those of you wanting to go on a writing tour of your own,
start by buying See
Jane Write, which is a girls' guide to writing chick lit.
I co-wrote it with my fab former editor Farrin Jacobs. It'll be
coming out mid-August, but I think Barnes & Noble is already
selling it on-line. It's very colorful, very cute and very user-
friendly. So if you want to write...check it out.
Happy August!

June 2006
Hi everyone,
Lots of books out this month!
First of all, for the teens (or the teens at heart)
FROGS & FRENCH KISSES is now available in bookstores everywhere!
It's the sequel to BRAS
& BROOMSTICKS, so if you haven't read that yet, check
out the paperback version now out.
GIRLS'
NIGHT OUT also comes out this month. This chick lit collection
(which I co-edited with the fabulous Carole Matthews and Chris
Manby) features short stories from some of the biggest names in
women’s fiction (including Emily Giffin, Meg Cabot, Alisa
Valdes-Rodriguez, Lolly Winston, Kristin Gore, Emma McLaughlin
and Nicola Kraus). Plus, all author and editor royalties go to
the children’s charities War
Child and No
Strings. So not only will buying this book give you a great
night in, but it will give you that just-drank-a-hot-cup-of-coffee,
warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you do a good deed.

And for you Canadians out there, I want to let you know that
Carole Matthews and I edited a special collection just for those
north of the border. All author royalties go to War
Child Canada. The author line-up is slightly different, too.
In addition to the HUGE names I listed above, we also have stories
from Candace Bushnell, Sophie Kinsella and some fantastic Canadian
chick lit writers!
Stay tuned for updates on Me
Vs Me (a USA Today Critics' Pick!) and See
Jane Write coming in August.
In writing news...I've finished Spells & Sleeping Bags, the
third book in the Bras & Broomsticks trilogy. It take place
at summer camp. Thankfully, my weekend at Pripstein's (my summer
home away from home as a kid) was an excellent memory refresher.
The sequel to Milkrun is set to be published November 2007. Of
course I have to, um, write it first. I think it's going to take
place five years later....
And check out my events
and come say hello, kay?
Happy reading!

October 11, 2005
Happy fall!
Hope you all enjoyed the rest of your summers.
I’ve been busy finishing Girls' Night Out
(the companion charity collection to Girls' Night In).
Red Dress Ink will be publishing in the US, and Penguin in Canada
this June. If you’re in the UK or Australia, check out Ladies’
Night – Girls’ Night In 4, which is already
out and includes my story Know It All.
Frogs & French Kisses (the sequel to Bras
& Broomsticks) is done, proofed and coming out on
June 27.
Like Life But Funnier (the chick lit how-to book I wrote with
Farrin Jacobs) is now called See Jane Write.
The first draft is finished, and Farrin and I are smack in the
middle of revisions (to be published fall 2006) .For those of
you who want to write chick lit-- this is the book for you. It’s
funny, helpful and addresses all the questions you guys always
ask me!
I’m about halfway done with the first draft of Me
vs. Me (formally called Going Both Ways) for Red Dress
Ink. The book was slotted for June 27 (the same day that Frogs
& French Kisses is coming out) but has now been moved
to July 25th.
I’m considering writing a sequel to Milkrun
next …what do you all think?
What I’ve been up to the last few months…I went to
my camp reunion! Camp was such an important part of my childhood
-- I spent ten summers at Pripstein’s as a camper and as
staff –and going back for a night (oh, yes, we stayed over)
was both surreal, incredibly fun, and excellent research for Spellbooks
& Sleeping Bags (the third book in the Bras &
Broomsticks series.).
This picture is of my bunkmates - yes, most of us showed up.
That's Christine, Elissa, Rebecca, Mel (my camp BF) and me.
I hadn't seen any of these girls in years - it was
great to catch up.

This is of the bunk bed that I actually slept on. That's me on
top and Rebecca on the bottom. Rebecca and Mel were nice enough
to bring me bedding so I wouldn't have to lug in from NY.

There are all kind of ridiculous things that happened - one cat
fight between two women that ended with a friend falling into
the lake. Another friend getting insulted because we woke her
up in the middle of the night - which led to an argument, which
led a quasi- bunk meeting. Appropriately absurd since our bunk
was notorious for needing bunk meetings back when we were teens.
I'm sure you'll get to read more about it in a short story one
day...
Also went to beautiful South Carolina with my in-laws, and Atlanta
with Todd. Both trips provided some much needed R&R.
Upcoming: for those of you in Montreal, I’m speaking at
Jewish Public Library on November 7th. It's a fund raiser for
the children’s department, and my first event in Montreal
since Milkrun was published….find out more
about the event here!
Enjoy the season…

August 8, 2005
Hiya,
Hope you're all enjoying your summer!
Mine's been pretty calm. Hard at work on Girls' Night Out
(the companion charity collection to Girls' Night In),
Like Life But Funnier (my chick lit how-to book) and
Me vs. Me (formally called Going Both Ways) for
Red Dress Ink. Here's the back cover copy my fab editor Farrin
Jacobs wrote, in case you're interested:
___
Gabby Wolf has pretty
much, almost definitely (this close!) come to a decision: She’s
trading in Phoenix (nice but uneventful life with boyfriend) for
Manhattan (dream job as producer for highly successful news show).
Then Cam swoops in and gives her a sparkling engagement ring,
making her decision even more impossible: Husband vs. career.
Vera Wang wedding dress vs. sexy first-date outfits. Planting
roots in Phoenix vs. playing the field in Manhattan.... She wishes
she didn’t have to decide, that she could have it all.
She never expects her
wish to come true.
Suddenly Gabby’s
living two lives. Whenever she falls asleep in one, she wakes
up in the other. She’s got the best of both worlds –
what more could a girl ask for?! Right?
This fantastic
(and fantastical) new novel from bestselling author Sarah Mlynowski
will have you flipping pages as quickly as Gabby flips lives to
find out which Gabby reigns supreme in the battle of Me vs. Me.
____
What do you think? Now I just have to finish the book...
So far this summer: As of last week I have an adorable new nephew,
Isaac. And I also am officially an old married lady - just celebrated
my one year anniversary!
No big plans for the rest of the month. Although I am going to
my summer camp reunion in a few weeks. That should inspire at
least one book, no?
Have a great rest of summer!

May 11th 2005
Hi!
Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written. It’s
been a crazy busy month.
The Good:
-Finished revisions on FROGS & FRENCH KISSES. Wahoo! It’ll
be hitting bookstores June 2006.
- Bras & Broomsticks is a Summer 2005 Children’s Book
Sense pick. Yay!
- Lauren Myracle said this about my book: “Man, I wish I
had a little sister who could magic me up all kinds of cool stuff,
like shoes and boyfriends and the sudden ability to dance like
a fabulous pop princess. Alas. Thank the stars for Sarah M., whose
giddily funny novel spins out every girl's fantasy. Poof, instant
bliss.” This is especially exciting because
I love Lauren Myracle. For those of you who haven’t
read her, you should. Her Rhymes with Witches was fantastic.
Hilarious, dark and I couldn’t put it down.
-Husband and I went on a weeklong fantastic vacation to Panama.
It was gorgeous and hot and we stayed in these fantastic over-the-water
huts. (That's my cute hubbie)

- Did some fantastic events in Chicago and in Greenwich! Thanks
to all the amazing teachers, librarians, bookstore helpers, friends
and readers who made it happen!
Bad:
For those of you who came to see me at the Manhattan or Brooklyn
teen panels…I am so, so, sorry I couldn’t be there.
I had to leave town when my little sister somehow developed a
case of meningitis (who gets meningitis???) and my mom, dad, step-mom
and I hung out in the ICU in with her. Oh yes. It was quite a
weekend. Anyway, no worries, she’s 100% better and out of
the hospital. But I sincerely apologize to anyone who came to
see me. There’s another panel in Jersey this weekend if
you’re interested…and my sis has promised to do her
best to stay out of the hospital for it.
Upcoming:
I have three events coming up: two in Jersey and one in California.
So if you
live in the area: come on by!
More later…

April 8th, 2005
So I’m feeling a little old. Husband and I went to see
Maroon 5 last night and we were definitely the only people over
eighteen there.
Also, apparently, people no longer raise lighters during ballads.
Instead they lift their cell phones. Is this normal?
Anyway, all is good over here. I’m doing lots and lots
of events to promote BRAS & BROOMSTICKS in April and May so
check the events
page for details and if I’m in your area, please come
by!
Book News:
- Farrin Jacobs (my fantastic editor at RDI) and I sold a how-to-write-chick-lit
book called LIKE LIFE BUT FUNNIER to Quirk Books. It won’t
be out until September 2006, but it’s going to be super-informative
and super-cute. They're printing it in two color!!!! How cool
is that?
- Just sold the Canadian GIRLS NIGHT IN rights to Penguin Canada.
So my home country will finally have its own edition! It will
probably be called GIRLS' NIGHT OUT and released simultaneously
with the US edition. All royalties to benefit War Child Canada.
Movie News:
- Milkrun is being optioned by ARG Films Inc. Just signed the
contracts, and I’ve already seen the hilarious script! Yay!
Have a great week! And enjoy the weather. It's finally Spring!

February 7th, 2005
Today is the best day ever. Why? Because Law & Order
is filming outside my apartment. Oh yes. If there are any L&O
junkies such as myself reading this, you can imagine my excitement.
When my husband woke me up this morning with the news, I jumped
in the shower (no snooze button necessary) debating what I would
wear. I'm embarrassed to admit I even put on makeup, um, just
in case they needed an extra witness or something. (You never
know, right?) Anyway, they did not seem to need any extras, but
they were nice enough to let me hang out and watch Dennis Farina
and Jesse L. Martin do their good cop/ bad cop thing.
An excellent way to start the week. It's even warm out!
More good news - I've been getting some terrific reviews for
BRAS & BROOMSTICKS, which comes out in two weeks. Read them
all here.
A funny, happy, romantic
chick lit book I just finished: Alison Pace's If Andy Warhol
Had a Girlfriend. If you're looking for something fun to
read, check it out!

January 20th 2005
Hiya,
Sorry it’s been so long. This year, one of my many, many
New Year’s resolutions is to update this section more often.
(Others include being neater, not biting my nails, and not hitting
the snooze button...repeatedly.)
What I’m doing
now: Getting very excited for the February 22nd publication of
Bras & Broomsticks. Yay! It’s finally almost
pub time. I’ve put up the first chapter, the adorable cover,
and even international covers here.
Hope you like!
I’ve finished
Frogs & French Kisses, the sequel to Bras, and it’s
now with my editor. At the moment, I’m working on Going
Both Ways, my next RDI novel. And no, it’s not about
what you think.
I’m also working
on a short Bras related novella, where the main character auditions
for an American Idol-type show. If anyone reading has tried out,
can you drop me a line here
and let me know? I have some questions…I promise I won’t
laugh at you. Kind of.
I’ve been doing
lots of reading, too. My fave books of the month: The Year
of Living Famously, by Laura Caldwell (about a woman whose
husband is a star); Prep, by Cutis Sittenfeld (about
boarding school). My fave
books for teens: Saving Francesca, by Melina Marchetta
and Girls In Pants, by Ann Brashares. (Yes, know it hasn’t
come out yet, but I’m a very lucky girl and got an early
copy.)
It’s
freezing in New York. The hurts-to-breathe kind of freezing. Reminds
me of Montreal. Walking outside is so painful, that I caved in
and bought my first pair of Uggs. I know, I know, they’re
so 2004, but you know what? My feet have never been toastier.
Stop laughing.
I'm also going to
use this space to put up some pictures. The first is from the
GNI launch in NY. Check out Lynda Curnyn, Carole Matthews, me
and Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez. The second is of my new and adorable
nephew. I'm teaching him how to yawn.

Speaking of GNI -
we just sold RDI the rights to the sequel. And some amazing new
authors have agreed to contribute, including Kristin Gore, Emily
Giffin, Elizabeth Buchan...and many more. Look for it next summer.
In the meantime...stay
warm!

October 5th
A pretty busy month
already.
Highlights:
Monkey Business is now out!
It’s about four students in business school who live in
a coed dorm. American Girls About Town is also
out and features some of the best American female writers
around. Including a story by me about a girl who does (and doesn't)
cheat on her boyfriend. And yes I know I’m not really American,
but I think North American counts. And when I asked the editor
if she would ever do a Canadian Girls About Town she looked at
me like I was crazy.
I went to the recording
studio to hear Ariadne Meyers (she was Emma on Kate & Allie!)
tape the Bras & Broomsticks audio and was very impressed.
Her voices for all the characters were adorable, and she looked
just like did on TV. The entire experience was surreal for me,
since this is the first time my books will be available
on CD. All my non-reader friends won’t have any more
excuses.
I was also on a “chick
lit panel” at the New York is Book Country Fair, along with
Lynda Curnyn, Lauren Baratz-Logsted, Heather Cochran, Courtney
Litz & Michael Weinreb. At first the audience was a bit shy,
but they quickly warmed up and asked us lots of questions about
chick lit, which I’m always happy to discuss. Personally,
I’ve never had a problem with the term. What do you think?
Useful or derogatory? Feel free to let me know in the contact
section.
Lowlight –
the Expos have left Montreal. This probably doesn’t matter
to the majority of you, unless you too have a husband who is/was
also an Expos fan. Which you probably don’t since the reason
they are moving is their lack of fans. Anyway, if you do, or if
you are a fan yourself, I feel your pain. We are currently looking
for a new baseball team to support. I am rooting for the Yankees
since they seem to always win.
Despite all the above
mentioned excitement, I’m still expected to write. I’m
currently working on the first draft of Frogs & French
Kisses, the sequel to Bras & Broomsticks.
No point in telling you more about it since you haven’t
read /listened to the first one yet… (but you will in February,
right? Or at least buy it for your younger sister?)
Events: I’ll
be signing Monkey Business at 7:00 on Thursday December 2nd, at
the Barnes and Noble in Chelsea. It’s 675 6th Ave, New York
City, NY. I’m also going to be doing a live chat on October
20th, at 8 eastern time right here at my website. So if you want
to be reminded, sign up in the events
section.
Hope to see you all
there!

p.s. A reader named Danielle has started a fanlisting
for me! Fun, no?
p.p.s If you’re looking for a place to discuss Monkey Business
with other readers/me stop by the Red
Dress Ink community.
September 9th
Hi all,
Girls'
Night In hit the USA
Today
bestseller list!!!!!!!!!! Number 119 to be exact. I could
not be more excited. If you live in NYC, I'll be signing this
BESTSELLING collection that I co-edited along with Chris Manby
and Lauren Henderson, on September 20th at the Chelsea Barnes
and Noble, at 675 6th Avenue (at 21st Street). Signing starts
at 7. My contribution is a story called “Know It All”
about what happens when your roommate is psychic. All royalties
are being donated to the charity, War Child. You can also order
it here,
or find it in any bookstore. You can also read about how the book
came about in piece this
piece from USA TODAY.
What's new: I got
married. Yes, my fian—um…husband (how long will it
take me before that word easily rolls off my tongue?) and I finally
tied the knot. We then went to Kenya and Seychelles for our honeymoon
and had the most incredible time. We saw loads of elephants, giraffes,
gazelles, and even fornicating turtles. In the Seychelles we went
scuba diving and sat on the beach. And my husband—embarrassing
admission ahead—decided that it was time for me to learn
to ride a bicycle. As absurd as it sounds, up until last week
I had know idea how. As a kid, I refused to take the training
wheels off and my parents eventually gave up on trying to teach
me. So on our honeymoon, my husband held on to the handles and
ran up and down the street with me. And let me tell you, you have
NO idea how hard it is to learn this skill in your twenties. My
body still aches. But while I may not have mastered turning, I
think I basically got the hang of the pedaling part. Mostly I’m
looking forward to being able to use the expression, “It’s
just like riding a bicycle” in conversations.
Writing Stuff: Girls’
Night In is out! Go buy it and help a great cause!
Monkey Business hits stores in October. It’s about four
students in business school who focus on everything BUT studying.
Pre-order it
here. Bras and Broomsticks (my first YA book), about a girl
who finds out her sister is a witch, is coming out in February.
Buy an early copy for your younger sister here.
I’m doing a bunch of signings this year, and I’ll
post them as soon as the dates are finalized. Check back to the
events section, or sign up in the contact area and I’ll
e-mail you when I’m coming to your area.
And enjoy the last
few days of summer…
